Describe the problem from a safe position
Your first useful information is what you can see without climbing onto the roof. Tell Adam whether water is entering, which room is affected and whether tiles or other roof material have fallen. Stay away from loose roofing and the area below it. You do not need to identify every component before calling; describing a missing section, fallen mortar or a lifted roof edge is enough to start the conversation. The inspection will establish the roof details involved. Keep your observations factual and separate what happened during the storm from older stains or repairs you already knew about in the same area of your home.
Discuss attendance and charges on the call
Stormshield provides 24/7 emergency call-out, with ordinary hours stated as Monday to Friday 7am to 6pm. Call 07776 792661 to discuss the damage and attendance. Keep the attendance discussion clear so you know what has been agreed. You can then focus the inspection on the active problem and ask how any immediate work relates to the permanent roof repair still needed.

Record what happened without guessing
Keep photographs you can take from a safe position and note when you noticed the damage. Describe the rooms affected, visible fallen material and any water entry during rain. If you have older roof photographs or repair records, keep them with those notes so the sequence is clear. Do not describe an unseen structural defect as confirmed simply because a ceiling stain has appeared. Adam's roof photographs and written explanation will add the inspected findings. Together, those records help you discuss the proposed repair and any insurance questions without confusing your initial observations with the roofer's later view of tiles, ridges, flashing or other components.
Separate immediate work from the repair
Ask Adam which part of the roof has been damaged and what work is being proposed at each stage. Immediate protective work and a permanent repair are different scopes, so they need separate explanations if both are involved. A displaced tile, opened ridge junction and damaged lead flashing do not describe the same task. The supporting battens and membrane also need consideration when the affected covering is opened. Ask for photographs showing the findings and keep the written repair proposal. That makes it clear which problem has been addressed at the visit and which materials or roof components remain within work that still needs arranging.

Speak to your insurer about its process
Stormshield undertakes insurance work, but your insurer decides how a claim is handled. Contact it for the information it requires and ask how to deal with immediate roof work and the later repair proposal. Keep its response alongside the photographs, notes and written quotation. Do not assume that a contractor's inspection guarantees acceptance of a claim or that every roof defect found after a storm has the same cause. Adam can describe the roofing findings and proposed work. Keep that description accurate and let the insurer explain the policy and claim process rather than relying on an undocumented promise about what it will pay.
Keep the final work record together
Once the roof work has been agreed, retain the quotation, any changes and the photographs explaining what was done. Ask which tiles, ridge components, flashing or supporting layers were repaired or replaced. If the proposal changes after further access, keep the new findings with the original scope so the reason is visible. Our roof repairs cover tiles, hips, leadwork and gutters, but your own record needs to name the components involved in your job. That gives you a useful reference for later roof checks or questions from your insurer, without turning a completed repair into an unsupported claim about every part of the roof.
