Start with the roof that is there
Your quote needs to begin with an inspected roof, because replacement describes several different jobs. Lifting sound tiles to renew the layers beneath them is a different scope from replacing rafters and the whole covering. Tell Adam about recurring leaks, previous repairs and any areas you can see from inside the roof space. He provides photographs and a written explanation with the quote. Use those findings to ask what has failed and why each proposed item is needed. A single price without that scope leaves you unable to tell whether two roofers have allowed for the same work or even inspected the same components.
Separate the supporting layers
Read the proposal from the rafters upwards. Identify timber repairs, breathable membrane and battens before you look at the tile or slate allowance. Our re-roof build-up includes those named components, together with tiles, ventilation and dry ridge work. Ask which parts will remain and which will be renewed, and how further findings will be discussed after the roof is opened. Accessible inspection photographs are useful evidence, but they do not show every concealed timber. Ask whether sound tiles can stay

Include the edges and junctions
A quote focused on the broad slope can leave you uncertain about the details around it. Ask what happens at the eaves, ridge, verge and chimney. Eaves trays, roof vents, dry ridge components, lead flashing and soakers need to be identified when included.
